As a Barclays Senior Devops Data Engineer you will have a chance to build best-in-class modern data processing platforms, develop data engineering expertise and share across the organisation, participate in engineering working groups, create intellectual capital by building in-house modern data micro-services and advanced machine learning and data platform capabilities. This role will require collaboration with architects and engineers of all levels in multiple teams across the bank, as well as security and infrastructure teams.

What will you be doing?
• Designing and building in-house software, architecture, and tooling for our real-time and big data platforms
  • Building prototypes and performing demos of emerging data technologies and popular GitHub projects
  • Helping build CI/CD, testing and operability patterns across our data systems
  • Managing hands-on within engineering with high priority data, analytics, and ML projects in different areas of the business
  • Ensuring that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Handling external stakeholders and control functions where required
What we’re looking for
• Interest in core database and/or distributed systems theory. Experience is expected of streaming data concepts
  • Solid programming ability at least one general purpose programming language (e.g. Python, Golang, Java or Scala) and understanding of test driven development
  • Public cloud platforms and Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, Chef, Ansible, Cloudformation
  • Experience in stream processing such as Kafka/Spark/Beam/Flink/Materialize


Skills that will help you in the role:
• Significant Knowledge in Kafka, CDC and other distributed data systems
  • Knowledge in Kubernetes
  • Engineering and/or public cloud certifications
  • Github account with personal projects or open-source project contributions

In the heart of Canary Wharf, our headquarters at Churchill Place boasts onsite amenities such as; a gym, staff restaurant and deli bar, and is easily accessible by tube and bus links. With a population of around 5000 staff the atmosphere is second to none with a real buzz being created around the offices within.
